Take Action

Although everyone wants clean, healthy streams,  not everyone knows that it makes economic sense to ensure that our streams in Loudoun are healthy and clean.

So what is the economic connection?

  • People like to live in a healthy environment, and businesses like to locate where their employees will be happy.
  • Streams feed our public drinking water facilities.
  • The cleaner the streams that feed these water treatment facilities, the fewer chemicals are needed to make the water potable and the less it costs.
  • Costly flooding incidents are reduced if streams are allowed the space they need to function in a healthy natural fashion.
  • Better recreational opportunities are available to tourists who want to visit beautiful, clean and safe locations.
  • Water serves an essential need for the health, safety and welfare of residents and businesses.  Communities that do not fully protect these needs are at a competitive disadvantage.

Choose to make a difference!  Express your support for Loudoun’s proposed stream protection–the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance.

  • Write a letter to the Board of Supervisors (see letter template)
  • Subscribe to our blog and send the link to your friends
  • Post our flier in public places
  • Write a letter to the editor in support of the ordinance

Every little bit helps.  The more you do, the more you help!

Did you know? Each one of us uses an average 69.3 gallons of water a day indoors*. At 2.78 people in the average Loudoun residence, that’s 192.7 gallons of water per household. If you water outside, then you use considerably more. Healthy streams make it easier, safer and less expensive to ensure an affordable supply of drinking water.  Protecting our streams benefits us today and protects our children for tomorrow.
